The Department of Biomedical Engineering was established in the year 2025 with a vision to provide quality education and research opportunities in the rapidly evolving field of biomedical sciences and engineering. The department offers an undergraduate programme, B.E. in Biomedical Engineering, with a current intake of 30 students. It is supported by a team of highly qualified and dedicated faculty members, with a total staff strength of 03 teaching staff and 01 non-teaching staff.

The department is committed to developing students into internationally competent engineers equipped with strong application-oriented knowledge, active involvement in research, dynamic entrepreneurial skills, and sound human values. The curriculum and academic environment are designed to meet the growing demands of society and the healthcare industry.

The department is well-equipped with spacious laboratories and state-of-the-art equipment to support practical learning and research activities. The sincere and continuous efforts of the faculty members in mentoring and motivating students have led to remarkable achievements in co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including active participation in various technical and non-technical clubs.

Mrs. N. HEMALATHA

Assistant Professor and Head - Department of Biomedical Engineering

Mrs. N. Hemalatha is a dedicated academician and accomplished administrator with over 19 years of teaching and academic leadership experience. She currently serves as the Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, bringing with her a strong background in Electronics and Applied Engineering research.

Academic Qualifications:

  • Completed M.E. in Applied Electronics from Anna University
  • Pursuing Ph.D. at Anna University with doctoral research on "Retrieval of Image Using Binary Descriptors"
  • Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education (MISTE) and IEEE member

Core Areas of Interest: Her academic and research interests include Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Applications, Digital Signal Processing, Digital Image Processing, Embedded Systems, Microprocessors and Microcontrollers, Communication Systems, and Control Systems. She has consistently achieved 100% results in major subjects and has received multiple academic excellence awards.

Research Contributions: Her research contributions include publications in reputed international journals and presentations at national and international conferences in the areas of FPGA implementation, video deburring, feature extraction methods, and optical communication systems. She actively participates in Faculty Development Programs, workshops, and AICTE-sponsored training programs to stay updated with emerging technologies such as Machine Learning, IoT, Deep Learning, and VLSI Design.

Administrative Leadership: She has held several key administrative roles including Admission Officer and Admission Coordinator, DOTE-TNEA Nodal Officer, NAAC Criteria 5 In-charge (contributed towards securing NAAC 'A' Grade), and SPOC for E-Box Colleges. Her leadership has significantly contributed to institutional growth, achieving remarkable admission milestones and strengthening academic quality standards.

Awards & Recognition: She has been honored with numerous awards including Best Researcher Award, Best Guru Award, Best Organizer Award, Best Admission Coordinator Award, Women Role Model Award, and Best Exemplary Contribution in NPTEL. She is proficient in advanced tools such as MATLAB & Simulink, LabVIEW, Multisim, Xilinx ISE, and Code Composer Studio.

A committed educator, mentor, and administrator, she continues to inspire students through academic excellence, research innovation, and strong institutional leadership.
