Dr. K. Anandavelu is a distinguished academician, researcher, and administrator with over 26 years of experience in engineering education, research, and institutional leadership. He currently serves as the Principal, Professor and Head of PG Studies – Thermal Engineering at MRK Institute of Technology, Kattumannarkoil. Through his visionary leadership and commitment to academic excellence, he has played a pivotal role in advancing quality education, fostering research and innovation, strengthening industry collaborations, and enhancing the overall academic and institutional development of the college.
He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Madras, a Master's Degree in Thermal Engineering from Annamalai University, and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University. His doctoral research focused on the performance, combustion, and emission characteristics of biofuel-powered diesel engines, contributing to advancements in sustainable energy technologies.
His areas of expertise include Thermal Engineering, Internal Combustion Engines, Alternative Fuels, Renewable Energy Systems, Advanced Manufacturing, and Materials Engineering. He has published more than 70 research papers in reputed national and international journals and conferences, reflecting his strong commitment to research and innovation. As a recognized Anna University Research Supervisor, he has successfully guided seven Ph.D. scholars and mentored numerous postgraduate and undergraduate research projects. His contributions to innovation include patent filings in emerging engineering technologies and sustainable engineering solutions.
Dr. K. Anandavelu has also served as the Coordinator for several AICTE-sponsored ATAL Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) conducted in both online and offline modes, bringing together academicians, researchers, and industry experts from across the country. These initiatives have significantly contributed to faculty empowerment, knowledge dissemination, and research collaboration.
An accomplished author, he has contributed academic books and learning resources in Engineering Mechanics, Engineering Graphics and other core Mechanical Engineering subjects, benefiting students and educators. He has also played a vital role in institutional quality enhancement initiatives and made significant contributions toward the institution's achievement of NAAC A+ Accreditation through his active involvement in academic planning, research promotion, documentation, and quality assurance activities.
